The 2026 Jean-Marie-Gauvreau and Jean-Cartier Prizes

.

The Jean-Marie-Gauvreau Prize is the most prestigious distinction in the crafts sector in Québec. It recognizes an outstanding work or body of work created by a member of the Conseil des Métiers d’art du Québec (CMAQ) with 10 or more years of professional practice. Presented by the CMAQ in collaboration with the Caisse Desjardins de la Culture, the award grants the winner a $10,000 prize and $1,000 to each of the two finalists. This year, the Caisse Desjardins de la Culture will fund all the prizes associated with the Jean-Marie-Gauvreau Prize.

This year’s finalists were pluridisciplinary textile artist Carole Baillargeon, multidisciplinary artist Mélanie Denis, and the glass artist duo Karina Guévin and Cédric Ginart.

This year, the prize was awarded to Karina Guévin and Cédric Ginart for their series entitled Chimères (2024).

The Jean-Cartier Prize, dedicated to supporting emerging talent in fine crafts, rewards a work created by a CMAQ member with less than 5 years of professional practice. Assurart is offering a $3,000 bursary to the winner.

This year’s finalists were glass artist Dorothée Bouliane, artisan and textile artist Agathe Dessaux, and jeweller Malika Rousseau.

This year, the prize went to Malika Rousseau for her series entitled Ipséité (2025).
